If you are convicted of a felony in the State of Arizona, the life-altering penalties are harsh. You could face massive fines, prison time, probation, and more. The severity of these penalties is dependent on the classification of the crime committed. Our Scottsdale criminal defense team can help you understand some of the charges that fall into each class and provide the defense you need during this time.

According to Ariz. Rev. Stat. §§ 13-601, 13-602, there are 6 different categories of felony offenses. The most serious felonies are categorized under class 1, with less serious felonies categorized in subsequent classes. Below is a list of some of the most common types of felony offenses and their associated penalties:

Class 1:

  • First degree murder: death penalty or life imprisonment
  • Second degree murder: 16 years’ to life in prison

Class 2:

  • Production or creation of child pornography: 5 to 12 1/2 years in prison

Class 3:

  • Marijuana cultivation, involving 4 or more pounds: 3 1/2 years to 8 years and 9 months in prison

Class 4:

  • Theft of any property between $3,000 and $4,000 in value: 2 1/2 years to 3 years and 9 months in prison

Class 5:

  • Pimping and pandering: 2 years to 2 1/2 years in prison

Class 6:
